They were called Colored Troops and they served in the Union Army, Navy, with determination, with Guts and with a Spirit that was Unyielding and Ferocious in the Battlefield… Ran from the Plantations, ran from the Lynch Mobs, and came battered, tattered because they heard the first call of freedom in their soul… This is for the forgotten men who fought for this country, died by the thousands for this country in THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR… They enlisted with threat of death from former Slave Owners, from the Owners of Fear who cower at the thought of trained Negroes with guns… They enlisted because they knew that freedom was at stake and they were tired of fighting Jim Crow, Willie Lynch, and all those laws that regulated their humanity… Forgotten in the medal department for bravery and heroic deeds because they were the products of scorned Black Seeds… Forgotten because in those times, the Black Soldiers was met with disdain from hands that only viewed him as three fifth a man…
These words are for the spirits of the U.S COLORED TROOPS… We honor you, because we now understand what a great sacrifice so many of you made, while still under the yoke of those who sought to keep you enslaved… So many of you were killed and left in unmarked graves, with no heroic attached to your names, no family to mourn your name… Unknown were the names of many men, Unknown because no records of who they were existed or were considered important… Unknown because Blacks were considered property and not respected for their intelligence or fighting abilities… Not respected by Leaders and Laws that constantly reminded the Black Soldier of “Their Place”, when It concerned Equality between the Races… These words are for you FIGHTING 54, for you 20th REGIMENT and All the Other BLACK TROOPS that paved the way, and showed the world that Black Men are Natural Warriors and Can Make a Difference in Any War… From your resting place we Honor you, for the world to see and hear we stand here and honor, you… Known and Unknown may these words ride the wind and find you… FORGOTTEN…NEVER IN OUR HEART… WE-SALUTE-YOU… |
