About Word Bird

Malik S. Canty is a retired educator, an author and a spiritual poet who speaks for the voiceless. Known around the poetry circuit as the “Word Bird,” Malik has performed in various places, including The Apollo Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Schomburg Cultural Center, and a semi finalist at the McDonalds Gospelfest.
In addition, Malik has been published in various magazines and anthologies, and has five poetry collection to his credits: “Tears For My Ancestors,” “Poetic Fire,” “Words From The River” and “Who Hears the Poet When He Weeps? "Words from The River 2nd Edition"
Word Bird writes to reveal the messages in his soul and as a witness of the durability of his people. The spirit and eyes of many speak to his soul, which leads him to intuitively write and speak for those individuals or groups who are afraid, or incapable of expressing themselves, or just don’t know how to communicate effectively.
